Australia’s Chief Scientist calls for AI regulation
Chief Scientist of Australia Alan Finkel wants governments and businesses to develop a regulatory framework for artificial intelligence. According to Finkel regulations are needed to give consumers trust in AI devices and software.
Australia’s Chief Scientist seeks global standards for AI devices, both for consumer goods and social media platforms, professional equipment and for instance also for arms. “I can imagine an ethical AI stamp – call it the Asimov, in honour of the Isaac Asimov who gave us the three Robot Laws”, Finkel said at the Creative Innovation Global conference.
According to the Chief Scientist of Australia the stamp needs to be part of a continuum of regulation from smartphones upwards to automated weapon systems, in order to ensure AI devices are adequately trained and controlled.
